I moved into this place about a year ago, and ever since then, there has been a wide, sad expanse of wall above my couch. I always meant to hang up a big picture there, but I never quite found the right one. Then I visited a friend, and she had a shelf full of books up on her wall. You might be able to guess what my next Christmas wish was. After a trip to
hell Ikea and some near misses with the wiring in my wall, the shelf was finally up. I expected to have a lot more space for my books now, but somehow my other shelf is still almost as full as before (bottom right).
Now I don’t have a picture, but trust me on this: IT WASN’T PRETTY. Books were flung across the room, hands were thrown up in despair and a “go to hell” shelf was created. How are there so many ways to sort books? Do you do it by author, by genre, by color, by size, completely random…? After a quick existential crisis, I put a couple of series on the top shelf (why do all my series have dark covers?) and used the bottom shelf for random loners and favorites, framed by stacks of classics and to be reads so they don’t fall off the shelf. On the right side, I have three smaller black boards to display some of my favorite series.
Positively enthusiastic! I’ve had the shelves for a couple of days now and they make me happy every time I look at them. Unfortunately, I won’t ever be able to move again after all the work my mother and her boyfriend put into getting them up (what, you didn’t think I got my own hands dirty, did you?), but hey; I hate moving anyway.
In other exciting news, I decided I have a signature cake now. I’ve made it twice after finding the recipe online and both times it turned out delish. It’s called chocolate heaven and it tastes like – you guessed it – chocolate heaven. It’s a super easy chocolate cake with an almost liquid core, and I love it to death. Hence the “heaven” part of the name, I guess.
I’m currently reading In the Afterlight, the third book in the The Darkest Minds series, so prepare for a review soon. So far I’m VERY into it (apart from a few minor issues), but I’m curious about the ending, so we’ll see. After that I’m on a reading ban until after my exam in less than two weeks
ARGH WHY DIDN’T I STUDY MORE, but I have a great selection to choose from to reward myself if when I pass that.
Music is very important to me because I’m constantly on some sort of public transportation and I NEED my music to pass the time. And even if it weren’t for that, I get random urges to turn the volume up and throw a mini dance party when I’m alone at home, so it’s vital I have some great music to get my groove on. Unfortunately, I’m constantly listening to the same songs and, even though they’re all great songs, I’m at the point where I just can’t listen to the same things over and over again anymore. For that reason I decided to invest a little into new music. I’ve gotten into the habit of buying songs I really like every once in a while, but lately I haven’t been loving any particular artists enough to buy an entire album. I spent like two hours looking for good beats on youtube yesterday, but I didn’t come up with much. I finally bought Iggy Azalea’s album because I liked Fancy and Black widow and I’m digging it. Apart from that I only got Lil Wayne’s A Millie because that beat’s still sick. I’d like some more variety, but I don’t want to waste my money on something I might not even like. I’m also looking into finally buying some good headphones so I can actually enjoy the bass, but they’re expensive, which means there’ll be a lot of testing and saving beforehand.

What’s been happening with you guys? Anything new and exciting? What’s been getting you to turn up the volume lately? My taste in music is fairly eclectic, so bring on the recs.
