What’s New?

Meeeeeeerry Christmas, everyone! And of course the token but heartfelt if you’re not celebrating have a merry time anyway. And if you absolutely detest Christmas, I hope you have successfully locked yourself away and will be happy to hear that it’s safe to come out again tomorrow. At least we’re having the warmest December since the beginning of time, so Grinches can rejoice at the lack of snowpeople and snowball fights. Okay, since we started recording the weather, but it’s almost the same thing.

Yes, there’s a seasonally appropriate Hogwarts gif for every occasion.

We had a more or less stressless Christmas Eve (which is when food and family and presents happen in Germany). Yesterday was more of a fuck-off-world-please day for me, so I mainly spent it reading, but today we had raclette and guests and did I mention raclette? I think my favorite time about the winter holidays specifically is that so many of my friends who are usually distributed across the world, or at least the country, are home for the holidays, so I can see them. I don’t have to work next week, but I do have to speedily produce a 20-page essay, so we’ll see how that goes. I’ve also been vlogging again, because what’s more interesting than one random person’s life.

The Shiny

I was all prepared to say I didn’t get anything this week sadface emoticon, but then I realized I bought four books. Oops. I found a voucher from 2013 and one from this year, so I went to town. I know, party hard.

All The Bright Places, Firewalker, Conquest and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

On the Blog

Aaand we’re back to a list with one bullet point. I swear I wanted to write up more posts; I just…didn’t.

Tune of the Week

It’s gotta be something Christmassy this week! I really like this version of All I Want For Christmas Is You (the good part starts at 0:43).

Any cool presents? Funny accidents? We almost burned down the house because the décor caught fire. Like that, but less dangerous and more funny.

As always, I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and the Sunday Post hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

My sister tipped wax from a candle all over the Christmas table. Aaaand my niece dumped her glass of juice over me. -_- I mean, she’s THREE YEARS OLD so I really can’t be surprised but — ermagerd it was cold, okay?! And speaking of seasonal weirdness…IT WAS COLD IN AUSTRALIA. Like. wut. even. weather?! I think the apocalypse is coming. But apparently Tasmania had snow and I live in about the middle of the East coast but I STILL WORE A JACKET.
    Not usual. Gahhh.
    Ahem. ;)
You did party hard with those books. YAY FOR ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES. *subtly passes you tissues and chocolate*

Dude, I feel you. When I was interning over the summer I had to go on a trip with a group of kids and one of them dropped their coke over my sweater and you can’t even get too mad because they’re children, but dammit I still had to wear it all day. What even, ARE YOU STEALING OUR COLD CAIT. I hear it’s about to get colder here, so maybe it’ll get warmer where you live. :D From what I’ve heard the book SHOULD come with tissues and chocolate. I shall make sure to take the necessary precautions.

What is raclette? I have never heard of it! All The Bright Places is a wonderful book. Isn’t it fun when you find a gift card (or such) you forgot you had? Have a restful rest of your break, and good luck on your paper.

Here’s an explanation, but it basically means you have cheese and potatoes and all sorts of vegetables and maybe meats or sausages or something along those lines and dips and then you can melt the cheese on top of your chosen ingredients in a raclette grill. So everyone has an individual little pan and then you wait until the cheese has melted and enjoy the deliciousness. I wasn’t aware that it was a European thing, but I know that even here everyone does it a little differently, but it’s usually a very drawn-out, fun meal and very popular around Christmas and New Year’s. Glad to hear you liked All the Bright Places and thanks for the wishes. I hope you have a great holiday too!

Thankfully no Christmas accidents at my house. It was just my husband and I. We didn’t really do gifts this year, except for the dogs. They were beyond spoiled. I made a prime rib and gingerbread cookies, and we ate and watched movies all day. I didn’t post a lot last week either, it happens :/
