Doing Things Exquisitely

What’s New?

Gooood afternoon my squishy friends,

I hope you’re all well and swell. My week has been busy, but good busy. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been a little stressed, because I always had all the things I need to do for university at the back of my mind. I wasn’t doing them because of all the other stuff, but I still had this nagging feeling all the time. Because of this, I’ve decided I’ll concentrate on one thing – the internship – and somehow do all my university things after. So technically nothing has changed, but it’s making all the difference, because I can focus on what I’m doing instead of resenting the time it takes me to do it.

I recently read a story whose moral it was “If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing exquisitely” (or something like that, I forgot where I read it exactly). Obviously it’s the same thing as “If things are worth doing, they’re worth doing well”, but exquisitely is a much more fun word to say and write, so I’m sticking with that one. From now on, I’ll try to do things exquisitely more often.

The Shiny

Well, well, well. I did not get books this week. I got something a little… bigger. I GOT A CAR. Okay, technically, I didn’t GET it. It’s not mine; it’s just borrowed for a couple of months. It’s the most unlikely thing to happen to me ever, but in short: a friend of my grandma doesn’t need it the next couple of months and somehow thought of me and let me borrow it for free. I only have to pay for gas, which is still expensive, but it doesn’t use much, so… EFF YOU PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. I mean… it’s important to be green and stuff. BUT EFF YOU. Just goes to show you never know what life throws at you, I guess. I can do everything so much faster now! Mucho convenient.

Tune of the Week

O… Saya by A.R. Rahman and M.I.A.

I was a huge fan of M.I.A.’s Paper Planes even before I watched Slumdog Millionaire, but that’s not the only song worth paying attention to on the movie’s soundtrack. The theme song (Jai Ho), for example, won a very deserved Oscar. Let’s focus on O… Saya for now though. I love how it starts out almost otherworldly and then builds up until M.I.A. comes in and nails her part. I feel like the music fits the lyrics, and the whole song is just perfectly restless. Awesome stuff!

What’s your favorite movie soundtrack? Do you have/make book soundtracks? What’s the most unlikely good thing that’s ever happened to you?

Thanks, Jackie! I DO TOO. I feel so much more motivated to actually do stuff haha. I used to love buying groceries when I was younger. Possibly because I didn’t have to carry the bags. Now it’s just like GODDAMMIT I BUY THE SAME STUFF EVERY TIME. It should be more common to have groceries delivered in Germany.

That nagging feeling is the worst and it seems it always stay around until you make a conscious decision to let it go. Sounds like focussing on your internship first is a good decisious!
That’s neat you got a free car to lend! And only paying the gas sounds like a good deal. I like public transport, but then again public transport is well done around here. And I don’t have a driver’s license, so I can’t drive even if I would want to, which I don’t. I hope you’ll have a great week!

I hope it was! It’s definitely improved my experience. I sooometimes like public transport, because i can just kick back and listen to some music, but in general it’s detestable. It just takes SO much longer to get everywhere. TBH public transportation in Germany is fairly good, but going by car is still faster, and I live in a village where the bus schedule on weekends is abominable.

A car is quite the something! I know, I am someone who comes around by bike and it is so good to be independent and get to things on your own time. So I hope you enjoy the traveling of the car! Oh, and I like the idea of focusing on one thing at a time. Trying to keep them all balanced in your mind only makes things difficult :/

Congrats on the car! And LOL about public transportation- yeah it’s greener but it’s nice to have your own car too. I would have a hard time not being able to drive. :)

    Have an awesome week.

You seriously have monopoly over perfectly placed gifs. I’m still not over that Victoria Secret “what do you wear whilst blogging” one, because it was epic and I could probably manage to still be laughing over it. And now the car one. VLORA. You’re doing it right.

Oh, I totally get that! Even if nothing has visibly changed in your schedule, doesn’t mean that mentally sorting out what you’re doing changes nothing. I find that, even if it doesn’t look like I’m achieving as much (high achiever that I am) as I want to/need to, knowing that I have it under control/when I’ll get to it makes so much difference. Keep enjoying your internship and those new wheels! xx

YAY INDEED. Ugh, crowded public transportation is the worst. I can uuuusually go to uni at times where I can avoid the rush, but I’m no stranger to awkward touching and rubbing against people (yes, that does sound as wrong on screen than it did in my head). IKR hahaha.

Yay for the car! That is fabulous! I love the gif too- basically perfection! (And no worries about being green- here in the US, unless you’re in a major city, you basically have no choice BUT to drive everywhere!)

My favorite soundtrack ever, and this should come as a surprise to exactly no one, is Catching Fire. Now, I know, you may think that it’s just because of THG, but NO! It is almost like someone grabbed a bunch of my favorite bands/musicians, and threw them on to the soundtrack like “SING FOR SHANNON, PUPPETS OF SONG”. Seriously, it’s the best. And the fact that it is attached to THG just makes it extra fabulous.

Now, the best thing that has happened randomly? I’ll get back to you ;)

Thanks for noticing hahaha. That basically screamed like some old fashioned Will Smith swagger. I knooow. From what I’ve pieced together over the years it’s kind of mental in the US? Like, how would I even get around as a tourist? Gotta say, as much as I hate public transportation sometimes; it’s still really damn useful and important!

Hahaha NO SURPRISE HERE. I’ll have to check it out; I don’t think I’ve ever listened to it before!
