Favorite Harry Potter Moments

November 26, 2015 books, fun, miscellaneous 14

I’ve been indulging in my Harry Potter addiction again recently, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite moments of the books/movies with you. I haven’t reread them, so this is a non-comprehensive, random list, but I thought some of you might enjoy it. :)

1. When Hermione hits Draco

I’m generally a very non-violent person, but there’s just something so satisfying about Hermione losing her shit and backhanding Draco. I think she slaps him in the book, but punches him in the movie? Either way, it’s glorious.

2. “There’s no need to call me “Sir”, Professor.”

Possibly my favorite line in the books. I distinctly remember laughing out loud at that. People always forget how witty Harry is, but he can be the king of sass when he’s not getting ready to sacrifice himself (again).

3. When Ginny lies about tattoos

I don’t have the books here, but the internet yielded this.

Ginny: You’d think people had better things to gossip about. Three Dementor attacks in a week, and all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a Hippogriff tattooed across your chest.
Harry: What did you tell her?
Ginny: I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail. Much more macho.
Harry: Thanks. And what did you tell her Ron’s got?
Ginny: A Pygmy Puff, but I didn’t say where

It’s just one example, but when Ginny isn’t inappropriately fangirling over Harry, she’s right up there with him in terms of wit. They really didn’t bring that across in the movies at all, did they?

4. Naughty boy

Remember when McGonagall caught Harry flying and asked a teacher to borrow Wood to introduce him to Harry, and Harry thinks Wood is something she wants to beat him with? Yeah, I giggled. (Also, how serious is McGonagall about Quidditch though.)

5. Fred & George

Basically every scene (apart from that one in Deathly Hallows), but I especially love the one in Chamber of Secrets when Fred and George walk ahead of Harry telling everyone to make room because the Heir of Slytherin is coming through. They didn’t believe it could be Harry for a second, but instead of being all sappy about it, they make one big joke out of the situation. My kind of people.

6. McGonagall and the suits of armor

How adorable is she? Truly one of my very favorite characters.

7. When Sirius offers Harry to live with him

It’s bittersweet in retrospect, but I was really happy for Harry the first time I read the book!

Ron, Harry and Hermione’s friendship

ALL THE SCENES for this one. But here’s three:

– when Ron and Hermione decide to ditch school and go Horcrux hunting with Harry like it’s not even a question
– when Ron, Harry and Hermione face all the challenges to get to the Philosopher’s stone together
…and Ron just getting himself beat and Hermione’s speech about bravery to Harry
– when they all stay at Hogwarts for Christmas to take Polyjuice

8. When Remus and Sirius find out the truth

…and they just hug and apologize while Harry, Ron and Hermione are like !!!

9. When Draco shows up wearing leather pants

Oh wait, that wasn’t in the books.

I absolutely love this post, especially the one about Draco wearing leather pants. That should have been a key feature.

I would like to add the part in Chamber of Secrets where Arthur Weasley beats the shit out of Lucius Malfoy, with his sons cheering him on. The Weasleys are my favourite. And Sirius. I also really like that scene where he and Remus just hug and make up and the kids are like WHAT IS GOING ON I UNDERSTAND NOTHING.

    Also, McGonagall is perfect.

Clearly the movies missed out on that one.

Hahaha yes, everyone’s just like WHAT THE EFF LUPIN I THOUGHT YOU WERE OUR TEACHER NOT AIDING A MASS MURDERED THIS IS ALARMING while they’re having a really sweet moment. I’ve been on tumblr too much lately, I have all the Marauders feelings and it’s nothing but tragic.

I’m still resentful about all the sassy Harry that didn’t show up in the movie, though. And also Ginny was 2000% more fabulous in the books. And what do you mean (9) wasn’t in the books?!? That must have been a typo. Draco wears leather all the time. A very consistent and large typo.

I KNOW RIGHT. I love that Harry is so sarcastic and witty; people don’t give him nearly enough credit for that. And Ginny was just ridiculous in the movies. I mean I don’t usually get upset when they change things around anymore, but they should at least stay true to the essence of the character and hers was clearly SASSY, ADVENTUROUS AND FIERCE and not boring and awkward. And yes, it’ such a pain when these typos sneak in and no one notices until it’s too late. Maybe they’ll fix it in the next edition?

I LOVE THAT TATTOO PART <3 Hahaha. I remember reading that one when I was young and I was laughing out loud because Ginny was hilarious! I also happen to really like how Hermione hit Draco in the face because it felt so good when that happened, considering that I sort of hated Draco in the books. (Not so much in the movies, though. LOL.)

Yaaaassss! True story– the scene where McGonagall brings to life the suit of armor makes me CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME! Then again, there pretty much isn’t a time when I’m not ugly crying during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2.

Now you’re gonna have intense unhappiness on your hands, Vlora. Teasing us with Malfoy in leather pants. Like a Labyrinth remake or something. SONGS! DANCING! THROW THE CHILD TO THE GOBLINS!
Aah, but this series. When I reread the books a couple years back, it was so startling to realise how much was lost in the film translation. I truly do love the films, but so much of the plot intricacy and humour was lost, and it’s really sad that that happened- like with Ginny. And Luna totally should’ve had more screen time, because she is my favourite. That is reason enough. *nods* Now I feel ripe for a reread and rewatch, despite the many hours that such a thing takes.

Also: See you next year, Vlora! I’m about to go offline! xx

Hahaha there SHOULD be a remake with Draco in leather pants. Or like, dragonhide pants and boots to keep it canon. Maybe there will be at some point, when all the fanfic writers grow up and happen to work in the movie industry.

Yes, definitely. I mean I think the movies are okay as adaptions, but they’re sooooooooooooooooo not the same thing. I was never as into the movies as I was into the books! They were a nice bonus, sure, but the books is where it’s at. Aw, HAPPY HOLIDAYS SEE YOU NEXT YEAR! I hope you recharge and come back energized. :)
