What’s New?

The first three evenings of the week were spent showing people around our flat to find someone to rent my room to this coming September. Thankfully we’ve found someone both my roommates are happy with and she wanted the room, so that’s one thing to cross off the to-do list. As to my room search in England I’ve also found something – the contracts aren’t signed yet, but, if all goes well, that’ll be done next week too. Lots of things are coming together and even more are still up in the air, but this whole moving thing is becoming more real every second. On a related note, if the UK votes to leave the EU just when I’m planning to move there, I’LL TAKE IT PERSONALLY. It’s rude, ok? Read a hospitality guide or something, jeez. It’s also becoming increasingly hard not to make King George from Hamilton references, which no one in my environment would understand, so don’t force me to confuse the people around me, k?

I also finally started working on my BA thesis for real, but right now it’s still just research and copying passages and stuff like that, so it doesn’t feel like I’m getting tons done. I’m actually at the library right now, but I worked for at least an hour before I went outside to watch the thunderstorm, so clearly I deserve a break.

The Shiny

Remember when I said I wouldn’t buy any more books, because I already have like 40 I haven’t read yet for a lack of time? No? Me neither, how convenient.

this savage song cover

My cover isn’t this one, sadly. It’s the UK version, which – as far as I can tell – doesn’t have a particular meaning as opposed to this one with the violin. I preordered this book months ago, so clearly it doesn’t count. I’ve already started reading it, and I’m liking it so far. It’s nice to read some Victoria Schwab, even if it isn’t A Conjuring of Light. (Have you seen the amazing cover for that by the way??)

shadow and bone cover siege and storm cover ruin and rising cover

Here’s the deal: these don’t count either, because they were 99c for Kindle. I only went to check them out because they’re one of the featured books for the Fantasy Favorites Read-A-Thon this year, and then I saw the price, so obviously I had to get them. I mean 99c for a book? A BOOK? Do you know how much work goes into that? Anyways, I didn’t even remember that I said I wasn’t going to buy any more books until someone reminded me, so clearly I didn’t actually mean it.

Tune of the Week

I love this version of the song. I’ve had it on endless repeat while writing a couple of times, because it always makes me feel all the things.

How’s your weekend going? Didn’t expect another post so soon did you? WELL, NEVER SAY I’M PREDICTABLE. (I am, actually. Very much so.)

I know, right? The Shades of Magic books were super cheap too when I bought them for Kindle. Though I guess I’ll have to buy those as physical books eventuall anyway, because I need them on my shelf. :D YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW THE STRUGGLES. I have a Hamilton quote ready at least three times a day and I always have to hold myself back because no one would actually understand what I’m talking about and then I’d just look weird haha. Thank you! :)

::Runs off to look at the cover of TSS:: Yeah, that’s a fail, international cover gods. A fail, I say! None of it makes sense, actually. I mean, the violin makes sense, yes, but it isn’t like the international edition has some OTHER important thing. Weird.

I am very glad that you are figuring out your living situation! Also, you need to just force people to listen to/watch Hamilton, I think? I know that like, most people over there THINK they won’t care because it’s weird American nonsense, but you and I both know that it isn’t so. I mean, so much of what America does IS nonsense, sure. But this isn’t one of those things ;)

No, the UK version is just like some black roses on a white cover with some random red mixed in? Like, cool but what does it have to do with the story??

Yeah, I probably should. I mean I HAVE, but there’s a limit to what I can do before people stop talking to me, y’know? :D

Sounds like you got a lot done. Sometimes when you are busy and take a stop it seems like you didn’t do a whole lot, but when you tell others they don’t agree. Funny how that works.

I got the UK paperback of This Savage Song as well. I like that cover too. :) It fits with my other v.e. schwab paperbacks. All red and white. I hope you enjoy The Grisha trilogy. :)

That’s true! Talking to others can give some perspective. :) Yeah, it’s not ugly or anything, but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the story? IDK, I just prefer the US version, but I’ll live. :D Thanks, I hope so too!

I’m so happy you’ll be joining us for the Read-a-thon, it’s going to be great :D

(Also, it would definitely be rude for the UK to leave the EU right when you’re planning on moving there. I would write a very passive-aggressive letter to them if I were you.)

It will be, I’m looking forward to it! I wrote my intro post yesterday. :)

OMG IKR? Like, couldn’t you have chosen a different time? (Or, like, do the sensible thing and not leave at all?) I will consider that passive aggressive letter, but it sounds a bit extreme – I think I’ll leave that option open for if it comes to the worst. :D

It is, especially when you’re moving to a different country – I’m just now realizing how many things I have and it’s literally just one room haha. Thanks, have a great week!

Temporary amnesia is permissable when it comes to forgetting one’s resolutions re book buying.

I’m glad you’re getting everything sorted in terms of your current place and future place!

Such wonderful book choices! I got to see Victoria Schwab at a book festival last weekend! She was a wonderful panelist, and I adore her writing. i also LOVE the Grisha series. I will have to see if they are still available for 99cents on my kindle. Have a great week.

You did?? That’s great! I’d love to see her and I heard she’ll announce UK dates soon, so I’m crossing my fingers that she’ll come somewhere close-by while I live there. :D I’m glad you love the Grisha series; I hope I’ll like it too. :) The 99 cents deal was on German amazon, but maybe you’ll get lucky. Thanks, you too!

I love finding 99 cent books, and the Bardugo ones? Awesomeness. Glad the moving thing is coming along, hope it all goes well. Is the UK voting on that soon?? Shows how up to date I am on current events lol.

    Great song this week!

It’s literally less than the coffee (okay, chociatto) I’m drinking right now. I mean who could resist? Yeah, they’re voting on June 23rd, I think, so really soon! Thanks, glad you like it. :)

You could always still join us for the fantasy favorites read-a-thon and read them then. :D (shameless plug and it’s not even my event haha) Thanks, you too!

YES FOR BUYING THIS SAVAGE SONG. I don’t remember the UK cover, I will have to look it up later.

And what? The UK is planning to leave the EU? Obviously I don’t keep track of this stuff, but I feel like this would have been a big thing I should have known about? Also congrats on everything coming together (or will be coming together)! Are you excited????

It’s just white with the title in red and weird black roses. It’s not ugly or anything, I just like the other one better!

Well, I hope they won’t, but there’s a referendum in which people get to vote whether they want to leave the EU or remain in it on June 23rd.

Thank you! I am equal times excited and stressed at the moment TBH. :D There’s so much to organize and ish, and it’s a bit hard to leave friends & family behind, but of course I’m also very excited to go! I’m definitely looking forward to it. :)
