Shit I’m Going to Do in 2016

December 30, 2015 miscellaneous 16

Last year around this time I wrote a post called The End Is Near: 2014 Accomplishments and 2015 Goals, in which I set some goals for 2015. Now is the time to see whether I actually accomplished any of them. Let’s take a look!

The Moment of Truth

In 2015 I wanted to…

…do well in university

You know what? I’m gonna give myself a check on that one. I procrastinated so much I could write my dissertation on it and I would have done better if I had studied harder or studied at all, BUT overall my grades were between good and really good, so I’d say that’s a mission accomplished. Now I only need to do well on the things that actually count towards my bachelor grade.

…want to work or intern during the lecture free times

I have two major lecture free times a year, in which I’m supposed to write term papers, but don’t have to be at university for seminars. I have to admit that I didn’t do much during the first one, but I did an internship at my local radio station during the second one and also have been working at an office 1-2 times a week since May, so I’ll give myself a check for that one too.

…want to do something out of my comfort zone

I, um, have to admit that I didn’t keep track of this goal very well, but… I must have done? I do remember that I wrote a post for Shattering Stigmas that was very out of my comfort zone, so let’s check that one off the list too. I’m doing better than I expected!

…want to keep blogging consistently

Okay, look. There are several ways to define consistently. Fine, fine, I COULD have done better at this during some months, where I had random two week breaks, BUT I’ve been doing really well since November and I HAVE been blogging all year with no thoughts of stopping anytime soon, so that’s a check in my book.

…want to meet new people, make new friends, and stay in touch with the old ones

I stayed in touch with the old ones and probably got closer with some of the people I met since I’ve been at university. I have to admit that I could have made more of an effort to meet new people. I definitely met some new people, but I should go out of my way to make new friends more often. I think I’m a little more relaxed around new people than I used to be though!

…want to continue to grow personally

Yeah, that was a bit of a vague goal. I’m sure I learned at least some things over the last year, so …check? Check.

…want to participate in NaNoWriMo and win

I didn’t win, but considering that I didn’t even think I’d really do this when I wrote it down last year it still went better than I thought it would. I did the first two weeks of NaNo and I wrote 20.000 words, which I’m actually fine with, because I learned a lot and I’ll be doing it again! No check, but not a complete failure either.

…I want to make YouTube videos

I did this! Like with NaNo I wasn’t sure whether I actually would, and I thought I’d probably start at the end of 2015 if at all, but I uploaded my first video in June and I’ve been uploading videos ever since. Okay, I’ve uploaded 12 videos since then, I have no clue what I’m actually doing, and I could have been a lot more consistent, but did the goal say anything about having a plan or consistency? That’s right, it didn’t, so that’s another check for me!

Goals for 2016

I don’t to New Year’s resolutions, but I think setting goals for a certain time frame makes a lot of sense, so I’m doing it again for next year! Here they are:

Next Year I…

…want to get good grades and finish my Bachelor’s

…so I can apply to university in Glasgow (I might not get in and if I do it’s going to be one hell of an organisational and financial challenge to move to Scotland for a year, but I think this is an excellent idea, so wish me luck!)

…want to keep blogging consistently and by consistently I mean 2-3 times a week, Vlora of the future

…want to upload youtube videos more often

…want to get better at editing youtube videos

…will participate in Camp NaNo AND NaNoWriMo and actually win this time (someone remember me to plan out my novel before I start writing!!!)

…am going to try at least one new thing a month (it can just be something small, like trying a new recipe, but if there are some bigger things that’d be swell too)

…will make more of an effort to get to know new people

…am going to do more sports (literally anything would qualify as more, because at the moment I’m not really doing anything)

…will be kinder, more patient and generally make an effort to look at the positives instead of the negatives

And that’s it for my goals! Do you set goals? What are some of the best things you’ve done in 2015?

These seem like very mature and responsible goals. ;) GO YOU. Mine are just…ya know…read X amount of books, maliciously conquer a planet, keep on top of the TBR, stand on the tBR since that’s the only way I’m going to keep on top of it…NORMAL STUFF. *nods sagely*
Eeep, good luck for the potential move to Scotland and finishing your degree. ;D
AND YES YOU CAN TOTALLY DO NANO!! I want to actually join up for one of the Camp ones. I always chicken out because…cabins….of people? *gulps* I don’t even know how that works! But I’ll definitely be onboard for the November edition. XD

Yes, I usually make responsible and adult decision. Like, right now it’s 3.30 am and I’m replying to blog comments and have done nothing for the assignment I need to hand in tomorrow by the latest except for copying what I’m supposed to do. The worst thing is that it’s a book review. I mean I LITERALLY HAVE A BOOK REVIEW BLOG and yet I have been procrastinating this for ages. What is wrong with me? Ha, thanks! The Scotland thing is one of those things that I’m only putting on there because it’s scary as hell and I’ll never do it if I don’t publicly declare it somehow haha. Chances that I’ll get in are fairly slim though, I’ll think, so probably nothing’s gonna come of it, BUT I CAN HOPE.

Noooo, Cait, do Camp NaNo with us! I imagine the cabins are somewhat like the facebook group?? I don’t know, but it sounds like it’s just people encouraging people to write and I DEFINITELY need that if I want to get any words down.

OH MY GOSH, I HOPE YOU GET INTO THE UNIVERSITY IN GLASGLOW!!!! You know, because you’re dreams can be actualized and the opportunity would be amazing and think of all the things you could learn and all, BUT ALSO BECAUSE I NEED TO LIVE VICARIOUSLY THROUGH YOU!!!

I’ve set some goals in 2016. My number one goal is to become a “morning person”. I don’t know why, but I’ve suddenly become obsessed with waking up before the crack of dawn. I did it today rather successfully because my cat woke me up for noms, and then I couldn’t fall back asleep. So, I drank coffee and watched Star Trek, and it was glorious.

Thanks, me too!! I don’t think the chances are too high, but keep your fingers crossed for me! I will definitely do all the posts and vlogs if it does happen, so there will be plenty of opportunity to live vicariously haha.

Does it count as a morning person if I stay up so long I can watch the sunrise? No? Yeah, I didn’t think so. I am the exact opposite of a morning person, but I have to admit that I do enjoy being up before everyone else and just generally in the morning. It’s not that I hate mornings PER SE, it’s more that I just can’t go to bed early and I need my sleep. I might be more amenable to it if I can get up and watch movies though. :D

Fingers crossed that you get into the (what I assume is the equivalent of grad school?) university in Glasgow! That would be wonderful, and please, feel free to tell them that some random American said they’d be FOOLS not to accept you. On second thought, some people in America are actually trying to elect Donald Trump as president so… pretend you don’t know me ;)

I think you did VERY well with your goals this year! You did awesome with NaNo! And I don’t even know if you have to plan- I didn’t plan either year and last year I wrote 400 words, and this year 50K. Unless you are a planner by nature, then plan away! I want to do Camp NaNo too, so we can cheer each other on!

And DO post more videos, because you always make me chuckle. Go ahead and keep up the good work with posting while you’re at it ;)

As for me? I have no idea. I feel like if I don’t actually collapse by midnight tomorrow, then I will have done the best I could in 2015? Let’s go with that :D

Not sure about the grad school thing tbh, but I just looked it up and I think so! I definitely know that university in the US doesn’t mean the same as university in Germany. In Germany, we get our BA, MA and PhD all at university, so I have to admit I’m not 100% familiar with all the other systems. (though I should probably figure out the UK one if I want to study there haha) Well, I’ll just say this awesome, very wise person instead of a random American, clearly I’ll get in then. :D

I’m definitely not a planner by nature (I find it hard to plan out anything and think of ideas before I write), BUT I always get stuck when I don’t have a plan, so I feel like I should at least do some planning!? I don’t know; it’s a learning experience. Maybe I’ll have it figured out by NaNo #10. And congrats again on your 50k this year; that’s AMAZING. And YES I will need all the cheering on and I will be happy to provide all the kicks in the butt that are needed I mean cheer other people on.

I’ll try to keep the posting schedule up haha. I think I really do need to schedule more posts, because it worked really well in November that way and I can still do random posts in between. It’s just that when I write a post I want immediate gratificiation when I’m still excited about it. :D And I’ll try with the videos!

Not collapsing is a VERY good goal. :D I think you did FANTABULOUSLY WELL in 2015!

Glasgow! That sounds AMAZING. I actually want to move to Scotland as well, I have never actually been but there’s just something about the place.

I’m also planning on doing more exercise. Just get some stamina going, you know? I received an Amazon gift card and I bought a bunch of dance/zumba workout DVDs with it. Regular exercises get boring and frustrating, so hopefully the dance aspect will make things fun.

Don’t worry, we will keep kicking your butt on the NaNo Facebook group. ;)

YES move to Scotland also and then we can meet up and throw books at each other or whatever it is people do when they interact. Or, you know, if that’s too much we could Skype or something. Because it totally matters where you live to use Skype. My brain is mush today. I’ve never been to Scotland either! I was actually just looking at universities in the UK,but England is stupidly expensive STUPIDLY I tell you and I’ve seen beautiful pictures of Scottish nature (not that I’d go out into nature much, but it’s nice to know it’s there). Then again, I just realized there might not be proper bread in Scotland, because there’s not proper bread in England, and I vowed not to move to a country without good bread because bread, so we’ll see.

You know, I received an amazon card also, but I have zero inclination to spend it on anything to do with sports when I can buy books instead, so I truly admire your dedication. :D Dancing does sound more fun though, good luck!

Apparently we think alike because the whole intro to my upcoming goals post is about how I don’t do resolutions but I do goals. Anyway, it seems like you did well with your 2015 goals. 20k is still way more than I wrote this year, so I’d say even that one is a check. And the 2016 goals sound totally reasonable. I have faith in you! Good luck getting into school in Glasgow :-) (I meant that in the genuine way, not the sarcastic way, though it might be hard to tell in text lol.) What are you majoring in? Also, I didn’t know you did videos, so I’ll be checking those out!

Meanwhile I don’t even know what my non-bookish goals are for 2016. Apparently I’m just gonna wing it. I would like to get my first draft written though, especially since I’m so close to finally starting the writing (as opposed to planning), but who knows what’ll actually happen.

Thank you! I’m doing my bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary American Studies, but I want to my Master’s in something media related. Thanks for checking out the videos! I hope you find something you enjoy. :)

Just winging it is my approach to most things in life, so I think that’s a good plan. :D Good luck with your first draft!!

You’re going to rock these goals, I can just tell by the title. You reached so many of your goals, so congratulations and also yay! Your 2016 goals seem incredibly exciting and I’m sure you’ll learn wonderful things on the way to reaching them whether or not you actually achieve them. Happy New Year :D

oh yes I WISH YOU LUCK IN GETTING GOOD GRADES and also finishing your Bachelor’s! I will also be aiming for that this year :) And also, I think it’s totally fine that you didn’t keep track of your goals, I mean it looks like you accomplished a lot, LIKE PARTICIPATING IN SHATTERING STIGMAS! And interning! And sure you procrastinated in classes but doesn’t everyone? I definitely do.

Either way, I hope you have an amazing 2016, and that you upload tons of youtube videos and get good grades and MAKE NEW FRIENDS (I don’t know how it’s done, it just HAPPENS), and just have an amazing 2016 overall :)

Good luck with Glasgow! I thought about doing a semester abroad in college (London) but never got to it :( So I wish you good luck, that would be an amazing experience!

Yay! You’re so cute, I’m watching your videos now :D

I’m skipping my resolutions post this year. I feel like I failed most of mine last year, so it’s just the same ones for this year, lol
