Last year around this time I wrote a post called The End Is Near: 2014 Accomplishments and 2015 Goals, in which I set some goals for 2015. Now is the time to see whether I actually accomplished any of them. Let’s take a look!
The Moment of Truth
In 2015 I wanted to…
…do well in university
You know what? I’m gonna give myself a check on that one. I procrastinated so much I could write my dissertation on it and I would have done better if I had studied harder
or studied at all, BUT overall my grades were between good and really good, so I’d say that’s a mission accomplished. Now I only need to do well on the things that actually count towards my bachelor grade.
…want to work or intern during the lecture free times
I have two major lecture free times a year, in which I’m supposed to write term papers, but don’t have to be at university for seminars. I have to admit that I didn’t do much during the first one, but I did an internship at my local radio station during the second one and also have been working at an office 1-2 times a week since May, so I’ll give myself a check for that one too.
…want to do something out of my comfort zone
I, um, have to admit that I didn’t keep track of this goal very well, but… I must have done? I do remember that I wrote a post for Shattering Stigmas that was very out of my comfort zone, so let’s check that one off the list too. I’m doing better than I expected!
…want to keep blogging consistently
Okay, look. There are several ways to define consistently. Fine, fine, I COULD have done better at this during some months, where I had random two week breaks, BUT I’ve been doing really well since November and I HAVE been blogging all year with no thoughts of stopping anytime soon, so that’s a check in my book.
…want to meet new people, make new friends, and stay in touch with the old ones
I stayed in touch with the old ones and probably got closer with some of the people I met since I’ve been at university. I have to admit that I could have made more of an effort to meet new people. I definitely met some new people, but I should go out of my way to make new friends more often. I think I’m a little more relaxed around new people than I used to be though!
…want to continue to grow personally
Yeah, that was a bit of a vague goal. I’m sure I learned at least some things over the last year, so …check? Check.
…want to participate in NaNoWriMo and win
I didn’t win, but considering that I didn’t even think I’d really do this when I wrote it down last year it still went better than I thought it would. I did the first two weeks of NaNo and I wrote 20.000 words, which I’m actually fine with, because I learned a lot and I’ll be doing it again! No check, but not a complete failure either.
…I want to make YouTube videos
I did this! Like with NaNo I wasn’t sure whether I actually would, and I thought I’d probably start at the end of 2015 if at all, but I uploaded my first video in June and I’ve been uploading videos ever since. Okay, I’ve uploaded 12 videos since then, I have no clue what I’m actually doing, and I could have been a lot more consistent, but did the goal say anything about having a plan or consistency? That’s right, it didn’t, so that’s another check for me!
Goals for 2016
I don’t to New Year’s resolutions, but I think setting goals for a certain time frame makes a lot of sense, so I’m doing it again for next year! Here they are:
Next Year I…
…want to get good grades and finish my Bachelor’s
…so I can apply to university in Glasgow (I might not get in and if I do it’s going to be one hell of an organisational and financial challenge to move to Scotland for a year, but I think this is an excellent idea, so wish me luck!)
…want to keep blogging consistently and by consistently I mean 2-3 times a week, Vlora of the future
…want to upload youtube videos more often
…want to get better at editing youtube videos
…will participate in Camp NaNo AND NaNoWriMo and actually win this time (someone remember me to plan out my novel before I start writing!!!)
…am going to try at least one new thing a month (it can just be something small, like trying a new recipe, but if there are some bigger things that’d be swell too)
…will make more of an effort to get to know new people
…am going to do more sports (literally anything would qualify as more, because at the moment I’m not really doing anything)
…will be kinder, more patient and generally make an effort to look at the positives instead of the negatives
…GET BETTER AT TIME MANAGEMENT SO I CAN ACTUALLY DO ALL THOSE THINGS
And that’s it for my goals! Do you set goals? What are some of the best things you’ve done in 2015?
