Snow and Capitalism

What’s New?

This week I’ve spent some time at the university library not getting any work done; went to work where I did actually get some work done, because they pay me for it and apparently money is a stronger motivator than my self-development (who would have thought? Oh right, capitalism); and met up with some friends. NaNo is still on hold and will probably continue to be so, because I didn’t make that much progress on my term paper. In unrelated news, it was snowing today, so apparently winter is a thing now. More importantly, Christmas chocolate is a thing now! I mean, technically I’ve been seeing Christmas products in stores since August, but this is the time when I start to actually acknowledge them.

The Shiny

Oh boy. I finally bought a Kindle, but it won’t arrive until Monday. I wanted to buy a Kindle when they first came out, but then my mum got me another ebook reader, which was great and awesome and very thoughtful of her because I hadn’t actually said anything – but I can’t get the ebooks I actually want with it, because there aren’t a lot of choices for English ebooks, so I’ve just been using the Kindle app on my phone or tablet when I wanted ebooks. I’ve finally convinced myself to spring for a Kindle (Voyage, because who needs money on their bank account, and did I blame capitalism yet?). I can’t wait to get it! It was a spur of the moment BUT WHAT IF I MOVE AND CAN’T TAKE ALL MY BOOKS WITH ME thing, which is how I make most of my decisions, really.

Holly’s Inbox: Scandal in the City is the sequel to Holly’s Inbox. Both books are written entirely in email format, and they’re extremely quick reads. Very entertaining, can recommend.

On the Blog

  • I shared some snippets from the story I’m writing in my NaNoWriMo week 2 post!
  • I explained why I read so much Young Adult literature
  • and I told you that you absolutely have to watch The Martian! I’ve read the book by now, and the movie stays fairly close to it, so if you liked the book you have even more reason to watch the movie

Tune of the Week

I don’t listen to that much electronic, but I like everything with a good beat and Aero Chord kills it every time. I bought some of their music, and this one’s probably my favorite so far. I love the lyrics and that beat drop at 1:17 is perfection.

As always, I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and the Sunday Post hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

I, um, thought this was going to be about The Hunger Games. That’s where my mind always ends up, I fear. YAY for Kindle! I want a new one. Just because. Which I am afraid isn’t a good reason for the poor to buy Kindles ;)

Snow is NOT okay. Both President Snow AND the cold, white crap. Which, incidentally, also kind of describes President Snow. I digress. I actually allowed myself to buy Christmas things today too! Of course, they’ll probably be stale since they’ve been sitting on the shelves since August but… eh ;)

Haha no that’s completely understandable. I saw it when I wrote it, but I decided to leave it to lure people in (and then disappoint them with a post that is completely unrelated, but such is life no returns). I mean… it depends… do you NEED a new one? If you really, really want it, isn’t that kind of the same as needing it? Just saying…

Hahahaha that does describe him pretty well, doesn’t it? But I watched a video about how we’re all President Snow and I gotta say I agree. I hope you enjoy/enjoyed your Christmas things! I baked cookies yesterday, but they turned out …let’s say we’ll try again in a couple of days and leave it at that. :D

You know, I have to say I thought this was going to be referencing the latest THG movie, what with the title and all. I WAS WRONG. I FAILED. But you have snow! That’s so exciting- Vlora, I demand you instagram it and let me see. I have a strong love for snow, despite not being all *that* keen on the cold. For the first time in my memory it actually snowed in my garden this year, which was so incredibly exciting. It was strange and gorgeous and, because it’s not something that’s normal for my area, it just gave this beautiful feeling of change and beauty to the whole day. And made me joke that they’d close all the schools for it, even though it wasn’t a lot of snow- where I was, at least.

Christmas. I don’t know if I’m ready to be thinking about that, yet. It still feels like, three months too soon.

Nah, to be honest I was thinking of THG too when I looked at the title again, but I decided to leave it because why not. I should have instagrammed the snow, because it’s already gone again. We usually have snow in November, nothing at Christmas and then again in January and February, so I’m sure I’ll get another chance! I can see how the snow would look magical when you don’t see it that often! I always love it when it’s still untouched and all sparkly before it turns into brown mush. :D
