Cake Conversations Banner Kopie - Kopie

Hello cake enthusiasts! Let’s see what happened this week, shall we?

The Week

I handed in my presentation paper that was due on Monday on… well, Monday, and then proceeded to catch up on all of my tv shows. I actually need to write two more term papers, but the pressure of approaching deadlines is something I have a lot of practice in ignoring. I discovered some good music, checked my social media sites about one million times and wrote one page. As you can see, it was a very eventful week so far.

Almost all legitimate comments people left on my blog all suddenly went to spam, and I didn’t notice until Shannon kindly pointed it out to me. I might or might not have fixed the issue by deactivating some plugins (the next couple of days will show), but it was VERY upsetting. On the positive side, I got a really nice surprise seeing all the comments at once. It also seems that a lot of my comments are disappearing from blogs that use Disqus for comments, because they keep getting marked as spam, which is almost more annoying because there’s little I can do about it.

If anyone has had similar problems and has ideas on how to fix them, please let me know in the comments! In non-bloggish news, I’m going to my cousin’s birthday today, and then I’m Doing Stuff next week, but as of right now I have nothing more interesting to tell you, so let’s watch this beautiful video together instead, savvy? Savvy.

The Shiny

I showed great restraint the past couple of weeks, but I have space on my shelf again, so I ordered a couple of books this week. Two of them already arrived, but in my post-The 100 finale emotional breakdown distraction, I had them sent home instead of to my grandma’s, where I am currently residing, because the disadvantage of living in a university town is that it turns into a ghost town during the lecture-free times.

Points if you can tell me what movie that bag is from. Anyways, these are the books that I technically now own, but won’t hold in my hands until next week:

Motocross me is a contemporary about a girl in Texas who’s working at her father’s racing track. The blurb sounds like there’s going to be a love triangle, but… racing track. I think that pretty much settles it. Night Broken is the eigth book in the Mercy Thompson series, which is an urban fantasy series that I really like. I haven’t reviewed the books on the blog, because I first read them a couple of years ago, and then I reread and caught up on the rest of the series last year, but I’m very much enjoying them, so check the series out if you’re into urban fantasy and you haven’t heard of it yet.

On the Blog

  • I finally finished reviewing the books I read during my wifi-free time! Read my opinions on In the Afterlight and Eleanor and Park, and tell me what you thought of the books or whether you’re planning on reading them!
  • I discovered The 100 two weeks ago, marathoned all the episodes and then reviewed the show and wrote an essay talked about the season 2 finale. It seems like a weirdly high percentage of book bloggers are watching the show (which is GREAT), so come and talk to me about it, so we can support each other emotionally
  • I reblogged a post from my old travel blog on the Seven Annoying People You Will Meet On Trains and people seem to think it’s funny, so check that out if you’ve ever been frustrated by public transportation (by which I mean if you’ve ever taken it)
  • I also did the Cake Book Tag, because how could I not? It features cake and books, and there’s no reason for you to deprive yourself of that, is there?

I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, which is a great way to see what everyone’s reading, and the Sunday Post hosted by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, which gives us all a chance to recap what happened during the week!

How was your week? Did you read any good books? Do you happen to be an expert on transcendentalism and want to write my term paper for me?

The Party

I’M BACK ONLINE. You guys probably didn’t notice, but I didn’t have wifi for weeks. WEEKS. That’s decades in non-internet times. I might as well have been frozen in solid ice only to wake up in another millennium. What do you mean I watch too many movies? I dare you to say that again. Anyways, I have wifi again, which means I’m finally able to respond to comments and stalk your blogs write posts again. I only use this gif for special occasions, but I’m pretty sure this qualifies.

The Acquisition

collaged

I moved into this place about a year ago, and ever since then, there has been a wide, sad expanse of wall above my couch. I always meant to hang up a big picture there, but I never quite found the right one. Then I visited a friend, and she had a shelf full of books up on her wall. You might be able to guess what my next Christmas wish was. After a trip to hell Ikea and some near misses with the wiring in my wall, the shelf was finally up. I expected to have a lot more space for my books now, but somehow my other shelf is still almost as full as before (bottom right).

Heeeello internet.

I’ve been dreadfully sick all week, but I decided to crawl out from under my blanket for long enough to let you participate in my misery. Sound like fun? Yes, I thought it did.

Story time!

Okay, let me paint a picture here: After several nightmares in which my tongue is stuck to my gums, I wake up to find out my tongue is actually stuck my gums because my mouth is so dry it might as well be the fucking sahara. I have a massive headache and my floor is a sea of snotty tissues (as in they were actually full of snot, not as in they were stuck-up).

This box of tissues is not amused.

You know those weekly wrap ups and update posts? Well, I’ve been wanting to do something like that for a while, so here it is!

Cake Conversations Banner Kopie - Kopie

I feel like I’m introducing a new feature every other day, but hey, I’m still in the learning process; cut me some slack. Cake Conversations gives me a chance to show off my new books STS style and tell you about exciting things happening in my life. Basically, it’s just rambling in disguise.
